Abstract

Water crises intensified by climate change do not affect all groups equally. In Indonesia, girls bear disproportionate impacts, yet the mechanisms through which ecological crises produce layered forms of violence against them have not been systematically analyzed. Through an integrative literature review, this article analyses the Ecological-Gender Violence Chain by examining how various forms of gender-based water violence connects sequentially and reinforce one another. The chain operates through four main links: the extraction of time and body, the deprivation of developmental rights, the opening of doors to violence and reproductive vulnerability, and the narrowing of life choices. Poverty and gender structures are positioned as baseline conditions that enable and deepen these vulnerabilities, while climate change functions as a systemic amplifier that intensifies their severity. The concepts of slow violence and intersectional vulnerability are employed to explain why this chain of violence frequently remains invisible in both water policy and child protection systems in Indonesia.
